In Herts Rye House is probably within distance of you. Track is at Hoddesdon.

One of the first meetings of the season is there on 14th March at 2.30 - an individual meeting with Jason Crump ( current World Champion ) and a few other GP riders - should be a cracking meeting.

Kelvin Mullarkey used to ride for Rye House in the 80's and still is at quite a few meetings around the pits at Mildenhall - anyone like good quality racing Mildenhall run through the summer on Sunday afternoons.

Speedway!
What a fantastic family evening out, it's a great sport to watch. 500cc bikes with no brakes and no clutch speeding around an average 380 metre oval track at speeds touching 60mph. The smell of the fuel, the spray of the shale what a fantastic sport!

Bowls!
A placid game of skill and presition, played at a walking pace on a flat piece of grass or carpet. The smell of pipe smoke (outdoors) and grippo. A fantastic social sport for the whole family.

Have there really been speedway riders who have played bowls as well, two sports so far apart?

I used to watch the Stoke Potters in my time in Stoke-On-Trent in the late 80's and Wimbledon when back home in London. Nigel Crabtree, Eric Monaghan and Rob Woffinden (Father of Tai Woffinden) were my favs at Stoke. Neville Tatum at Wimbledon. Also Gordon Kennett of White City but they would all have to go a long way to reach the standards of Jason Crump.
The new season starts in March on Sky.

Sad to report that Rob Woffinden passed away on Saturday 30 January after a fight against cancer

Yes i heard that sad news at the weekend,at least he did get to see his son emerging as a truely great young rider.I used to go to Wimbledon Speedway in the 80s when i lived down that way,now go to either kings lynn or Ipswich occasionally, you cant beat a night at the Speedway!Still some great riders out there,Crumpy,Leigh Adams,Nicky Pedersen,Tomas Gollob to name but a few, shame there arent any Brits pushing them recently for the World title.

No!
How sad. I'd love to see Tai go and win the Grand Prix for his dad this year.
