Ok following on from my previous question about mixing when is the best time to spray to kill moss, I know that some leave it until late March time so that by the time it has turned black the grass is starting to grow so that the dead moss can be scarified out. But what is the best method 1 spray now and leave the dead moss in the green until it is ok to scarify, Method 2 Leave the moss until later on then spray and after the moss is dead then scarify.
So is it best to have dead moss on the green until late March or active moss on the green until spraying time in late March ![]() |

personally i like to apply early to control what is there then re apply as necessary, then once i start to get new growth, scarify lightly to break it up

That’s what I thought it seems a better idea to have dead moss lying there to clear up later than having live moss on the green. It’s nice to know that others are working in the same way. Any other opinions.

If the moss needs treating then treat it ,i do not see the point in waiting till spring keep on top of it .
Iron has many uses as it can help acidify your surface be used as a mild fungicide & moss controller. But a word of caution is not to over apply as you can get a build up in the soil and do harm to your soil microbial life . So keep an eye on all other fertilizers and treatments that contain fe. |

another treatment that has been used here in australia is a strong liquid dishwashing deturgent, wont burn the grass but hell moss and algae hate it. here we used dawn its one of those that is 5x the strength of normal stuff. apply it in low rates of water throuth a boom.( test on a corner 1st)

once you've tried iron and think ya need to do again, just for a change. try copper sulphate. spray the whole green with about 1.5 kg maximim. do not over use copper, twice a year. coppers as cheap as too
copper will hit the moss algae a lot harder too |
